About Industry Liason Committee

The mission of the Industrial Liaison committee (ILC) is to increase interactions between industry and the 10 BIC programs, supporting students and faculty.

  1. Connect with students across the system to provide a link to practicing industrial
    professionals:
    • Host career panels to increase student awareness of the different career paths outside of academia available to bioengineering graduates
    • Be a source of advice, mentoring, project sponsorship, etc.
  2. Connect with faculty to provide support from practicing industrial professionals
    • Support curriculum development that reflects current and future directions in industry,
    • Be a source of lecturers, advice, project sponsorship, etc .
    • Facilitate direct funding of translational research with faculty where appropriate.
  3. Create a Playbook of Best Practices for campuses to build productive local industrial advisory boards to ensure campuses and industry can thrive together.
    • Ensure all campuses have similar access to industrial professionals
  4. Speak with one voice to communicate:
    • The importance of medtech, biotech, and pharma industry as an economic engine for California.
    • The need for fiscal statewide support of education at the UCs (including to UC administration)

Goals for 2025

  1. Create a living document listing individual industrial professionals, their area of expertise, and the types of support/interactions in which they want to engage
  2. Survey faculty to identify their wish lists and priorities for ILC activities
  3. Create a single site where students can see internship positions available and apply, and industry can see students’ resumes and applications
  4. Build on best practices at the individual campuses to create a template for internship and COOP agreements between industry and the UC campus
